About

I started making these birds because I fell in love with a little bird named dou dou. “dou dou” is a French word that can mean a child’s favorite cuddly toy. dou dou can also mean sweetheart.

dou dou was the name of my little bird that I lost, and the inspiration for the birds I make. dou dou was the most amazing creature I have ever known. He made me realize just how aware and alive all creatures are, and I miss him terribly.

I have always sculpted but I never sculpted a bird until after dou dou came to live with me.

I’ve burnt myself out twice making these birds full time and completely stopped making them but I always end up making more! So now I’m trying to pace myself a bit and just make them when I’m inspired, so I won’t always have new birds but you can sign up for the mailing list on my site to get notified of new batches: http://doudoubirds.com/ or just follow me on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/doudoubirds/

  1. Thank you for the visit and liking a couple of our bird photo challenges. You certainly picked the colourful ones! As soon as we saw the little blue bird and the name, we were intrigued and came over for a wander. Your work is beautiful and your website’s name is cute. Being French born, I know exactly what the word Doudou is about!

If you are interested, we post weekly and every second Thursday is a bird post. So the next one is coming up on 27/11. Or you might like to follow us and get updates automatically. If this gives you ideas, all the better! Chris

  2. Thank you for liking my post, I only started making birds fairly recently and thought writing a blog might be a good idea. It is nice to see someone more established than me, was it slow at first? I think your birds are gorgeous!

  3. What a great blogsite! I could look all day. Your work is captivating! Thanks leaving a like today on my blog. Much appreciated! Even though the crow wasn’t nearly as lovely as your creations!

  4. How sweet you are! Thank you for stopping by my blog. I will teach my precious grandson, little r, “dou dou.” Is it pronounced “do do” or “dough dough”? I would appreciate knowing. Merci!

  5. Hi Dou Dou,

Many Thanks for the like at naturestimeline, I’m glad the post resonated with you and for sticking by me in my down time of late.

    Best Wishes
